The Innocents of America

Last night I was watching the movie Sergeant York. There were a couple of scenes that really stuck out at me one was the scene where York came back to New York a war hero and the Senator of Tennessee told him he had a quarter of a million dollars in endorsements and commercials. York’s reply is they offering that because of what I did in France. The Senator said yes. York said I did this because I had to and a lot of men like me are not coming back. I will not take any amount of money for that.

There was another part where a General asked him why he killed when he said he would not because of his beliefs in the bible and God. His reply was when I saw those machine guns killing thousands of my comrades I realized that if I did not stop them that thousands more would die. So I killed to save lives.

Alvin C. York
was just a back hills poor boy from Pall Mall Tennessee who had deep beliefs in God. He had a certain innocents about him. He had integrity and true spirit not from schooling but how he was brought up. Alvin's father died in 1911, leaving Alvin the oldest son at home to help his mother raise a large family. He went to war (World War I) not understanding it at all. He came home an American war hero.

I said in one of my earlier blogs that America has lost something and now I know what it is. We have lost those innocents, the self integrity & pride in our selves as Americans and that true spirit that God intended us to have. When we look back at those American hero’s they all shared that common faith.

So as I watch our politicians fight between themselves pointing the finger at each other. Not wanting to take responsibility and own up to what they have done or what they have not done. I wonder if they realize they are killing that American spirit they are killing the innocents of our country. They are taking our pride and identity away from us. When they start to rebuild the Gulf region are they going to let the American people rebuild it or are they going to exploit this disaster for there own greed and profits. It is obvious the oil companies are doing right now. And it does not take a brain surgeon to realize that the entire Bush family comes from oil.

As I watch our young men and women of the armed forces both in Iraq & Afghanistan and I watch them here in our country I see some of that spirit and innocents. I see the pride they all share; I also see that common faith and that is what America holds on to. Then I see how fast our politicians tear that down. As we all watch in horror as to what was happening in the South, President Bush and his inner circle - Dick Cheney was vacationing in Wyoming; Condi Rice was shoe shopping at Ferragamo's on Fifth Avenue and attended "Spamalot" before bloggers chased her back to Washington; and Andy Card was off in Maine - lacked empathy but could get the job done. But it is a chilling lack of empathy combined with a stunning lack of efficiency that could make this administration implode.
As I watch Bush and his Administration give America away at the same time tearing its identity away. I watch greed run amuck in not only our government but our leading corporations. Once again it does not take a brain surgeon to figure out that Bush is all for big business. Ask yourself this how many Americans have been hurt by this. Pension’s gone retirement’s gone jobs gone all in the name of big business and greed, and of course some good old fashion law breaking.

I watch the wealthy get wealthier the poor get poorer and the middle class getting wiped out I wonder is this what God intended us to be? If not what’s next for this country.
Something we all should be thinking about.

God bless America
Frustrated American
